Volunteers are mapping our local peatlands in collaboration with the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve.
These community science surveys collect data on the depth of peat so that we can begin to calculate the amount of carbon that our local peatlands store. We are also photo-documenting vegetation, as these ecosystems are undergoing rapid changes.
This data will be utilized by the KBRR for their ongoing carbon projects while also offering a hands-on experience for participants to connect with these unique and fascinating ecosystems.
